On X (formerly Twitter), your header image is the first thing users see when they visit your profile. Whether you are a brand, a journalist, or a crypto trader, a pixelated header screams “amateur.”
The platform recommends a 3:1 aspect ratio, specifically 1500×500 pixels. However, just like other social platforms, X applies automatic cropping that can ruin your design if you aren’t careful.
The Official Specs
- Dimensions: 1500 pixels (width) by 500 pixels (height).
- Aspect Ratio: 3:1.
- File Size: Under 5MB.
- File Type: JPG, PNG, or GIF (static).
The “Profile Pic” Obstacle
X overlays your circular profile picture on the bottom-left corner of the header.
Critical Tip: Leave the bottom-left area empty. If you put text or your logo there, it will be completely blocked by your face/avatar.
Mobile vs. Desktop:
X also crops about 60 pixels from the top and bottom of your header when viewed on certain screens. To be safe, keep all essential text vertically centered in the middle of the image.
Why 1500×500?
While you can upload larger images, X compresses headers aggressively. Uploading the exact 1500×500 size minimizes the compression artifacts, keeping your text sharp.
