The rebrand from “Twitter” to “X” didn’t just change the logo—it confused everyone about the image sizes.

Does X use the same banner size as Twitter? Yes. Is the cropping logic the same? Mostly, but with one major catch.

The circular profile picture overlaps the bottom-left corner of your banner. If you put your logo or text there, it will be hidden.

(H2) What is the Correct Twitter / X Header Size?

Despite the name change, the official dimensions have remained consistent:

  • Recommended Size: 1500 x 500 pixels
  • Aspect Ratio: 3:1
  • File Type: PNG (Best for text), JPG, or GIF.

(H2) The Hidden Danger: The “Overlap” Zone

Unlike Facebook (where the profile pic is centered on mobile and left on desktop), X keeps the profile picture in the bottom-left corner on almost all devices.

  • The Problem: Your profile picture will block approximately 25% of the height of your banner in that corner.
  • The Fix: Use the “Check Overlap” button in our tool above. It projects a “Ghost Profile Pic” onto your image so you can move your text to safety.

(H3) Does the X Header size change on Mobile?

Yes. On mobile devices, the top and bottom of your banner are often cropped by the browser status bar or the app’s navigation menu.

  • Safe Zone: Keep critical text vertically centered. Leave about 60 pixels of “padding” at the top and bottom empty to avoid accidental cropping.

(H2) Frequently Asked Questions

Is X header size different from Twitter? No. The dimensions 1500×500 pixels work perfectly for both the legacy Twitter app and the new X app.

Why is my Twitter header blurry? This is a compression issue. X aggressively compresses JPG files. For the sharpest text, save your design as a PNG-24 file under 2MB.

Can I use a GIF as a Twitter Header? Yes, but it will not animate. It will display as a static image (usually the first frame of the GIF). Stick to high-quality static images for the best results.
